Simply Audiobooks is an audio book service that offers two different options for membership, as well as individual download purchases. You can choose to be either a rental by mail member or a download member. The by mail service works just like Netflix does for DVDs. If you aren't familiar, here's how it works: 1. Sign up for one of their monthly rental plans on their website. You choose a plan based on how many audio books you want to have at one time. 2. Next, you use their website to build a list of the audio books you want to receive by mail. 3. The first item in your list will be sent in the mail, and if you've chosen a plan that offers more than 1 at a time, you will get additional titles in the mail. 4. Keep the titles as long as you want, then return them in the prepaid envelope that came when they arrived. 5. Once an item has been returned, the next item in your list will be shipped. All plans include unlimited rentals per month, free shipping both ways, no due dates or late fees, and the ability to cancel at any time. Their download service is similar to the model Audible uses where you pay a monthly fee and they get credits you can use to download 1, 2 or 3 books each month. It's a great system that lets you get books right away, the only problem is Simply Audiobook's downloads are not iPod compatible while Audible's are. Simply Audiobook's downloads do work with a long list of other mp3 players, and a list is available on their website. No matter what kind of portable player you have, however, you can always burn your downloads to CD and listen to them in any CD player. If you want, you can also import the CD you burned into iTunes and then you can use it on your iPod. It's not a perfect solution, but it does work and is a method that Simply Audiobooks mentions on their website. You can also import CDs from their by mail plan into iTunes this way. All in all, Simply Audiobooks is a very solid CD rental service and a good download service if you don't need to play books directly on your iPod. Website: Simply Audiobooks |
