Can I play audio books on my iPod?

iPod Audio Books

If you have an iPod, each of the three major audio book sources offers a way to get their audio books onto your iPod. That said, only Audible offers direct compatibility.

Audible - Direct iPod compatibility. When you download audio books from audible you can put them directly onto your iPod. You can also burn them to CDs, play them on your computer or transfer them on many other mp3 players. A full list is on their site, but rest assured, it includes all iPods.

Booksfree Rentals - Booksfree audio books come on CD in the mail, so when you get them, you can import them into iTunes just like you do with any other CD. It's a pretty simple solution that gives you the combination of their mail order rentals with iPod compatibility.

Simply Audiobooks - Simply Audiobooks also offers by mail rentals that can be imported into iTunes just like any other CD. Unfortunately, their downloads are not iPod compatible (they are compatible with a long list of other mp3 players however). The good news is that these downloads can still find their way onto your iPod if you first burn them to CD, and then import the burned CD into iTunes. It isn't perfect, but it will get the job done.

In short, Audible makes the most sense if iPod compatiability is your primary concern. On the other hand, if the other services meet your needs better, at least each offers a method to get audio books onto your ipod.
